Starting February 27, 2026, McDonald’s Japan began including UNO with every Happy Meal.
When I think of McDonald’s in Japan, I immediately remember lining up at 4 a.m. for the Pikachu McDonald’s promo card years ago.
Japanese McDonald’s has a unique culture limited items, unexpected collaborations, and collectibles that sometimes become surprisingly popular.
This time, the collaboration is with UNO.
UNO × Popular Anime
I have childhood memories of playing UNO, though honestly, I had forgotten most of the rules over time.
These days, it’s not so easy to find people around me who want to sit down and play card games.
But when I heard that popular anime titles were getting their own UNO editions, I couldn’t resist picking up a few Happy Meals again.

The biggest buzz in Japan right now is around SPY×FAMILY.
It’s one of my favorite series, so I was genuinely excited about this release.
Each set includes a special holographic card, which adds a small collectible element.
Details like this sometimes turn simple promotions into something more interesting over time.
I purchased four sets for my family.
I only had one duplicate and almost completed the full lineup.
Differences Overseas
Similar Happy Meal campaigns are appearing overseas, but the lineup seems slightly different.
From what I’ve seen in U.S. information, there is a NARUTO version available there.
As someone who loves NARUTO, I admit I feel a bit jealous.
(At this point, I’ve only confirmed U.S. details, so availability may vary by country.)
Pokémon, One Piece, and Dragon Ball often dominate headlines,
but Japan’s anime culture is far broader and constantly evolving.
What makes these collaborations fascinating is how everyday brands — even something as simple as McDonald’s become part of pop culture moments.
Even beyond trading cards, anime-related items often attract strong interest from overseas collectors.
I enjoy sharing these small cultural snapshots from Japan not just the big headlines, but the everyday collaborations that make life here fun.
