Original Illustration Sticker Wafer Vol.2 Release Day in Japan

February 9th marked the release day of
“Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Original Illustration Sticker Wafer Vol.2.”

Even before release, this series had already built a lot of excitement.
The concept, “traveling through the original story with stickers,” combined with the 40th anniversary celebration, makes this a very special product.

All stickers feature hologram finishes with gold & silver double foil, making this one of the most luxurious wafer sticker series Dragon Ball has ever had.

Since it was release day, I went early in the morning to Bandai Namco Cross Store Hakata, and I’d like to share a bit of that experience as well.

Life in Fukuoka, Japan

I used to live in Tokyo for many years, but around the time COVID-19 spread, I began to feel uneasy about crowded environments and decided to move to Fukuoka.
Now, six years later, I can honestly say that Fukuoka has become the perfect place for my work, hobbies, and daily life.

I’ll talk more about that in a separate article, but one nice thing about my neighborhood is that places like the Pokémon Center and Bandai Namco Cross Store Hakata are very close by.

This is part of what makes daily life in Japan so enjoyable.

Bandai Namco Cross Store Hakata

As soon as you enter the store, you’re greeted by the Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility, displayed in a Fukuoka-exclusive color.
The store also includes The Gundam Base Fukuoka, making it a must-visit spot for Gundam fans.

I visit this location often to buy One Piece cards and various character goods.
Compared to Tokyo, the space feels more relaxed:

• less crowded
• wider aisles
• a very rich selection

There’s also less aggressive bulk buying, so you can take your time browsing safely and comfortably.
It’s a place I never get tired of visiting.

A Quick Stop at the JUMP SHOP

On the way to buy the wafers, I also stopped by the JUMP SHOP in the same shopping mall.

You’ll find goods from famous Weekly Shonen Jump series like
Demon Slayer, One Piece, and Dragon Ball.

Sometimes customers ask me to pick up items from here, and every time I visit, I’m reminded how fun and energetic these series still feel even decades later.

Japan’s Unique “Wafer + Sticker” Culture

Now, let’s talk about the wafers themselves.

In Japan, it’s very common for snacks especially wafer cookies to include collectible stickers.
This isn’t limited to Dragon Ball; series like One Piece and Gundam also have similar releases.

While trading cards are popular worldwide, sticker collecting is especially strong in Japan.
Rare stickers are often easier to pull than rare cards, and at around $1 per pack, including the snack, it’s a very casual and accessible hobby.

That combination is a big reason these products remain so popular.

Current Market Situation & My Purchase

As of now, these wafers are already sold out on many Japanese online stores, and prices are rising on auction and resale sites.

This time, I was lucky enough to purchase a full BOX (20 packs).

Because the stickers follow the original Dragon Ball story, many of the illustrations feel nostalgic.
Personally, I’m aiming to complete the full set.
